Former South Holland District Councillor Rodney Grocock releases first children’s book
‘The Order of the Poop’

A former district councillor has elected to follow his passion for storytelling – and has now published his first children’s book. Rodney Grocock, of Pinchbeck, has released ‘The Order of the Poop’ with Pegasus Publishers – and hopes it will be the first of many works now that he has switched his focus from ballots to books.

After the former district councillor lost his seat last May, he thought ‘what should I do with my time?’ and, as a result, he turned to writing.  “About two or three years ago, I started writing a book and it was a bit of crime fiction,” said Rodney. He added: “I wrote about 2,000 to 3,000 words and I put it down because I got so busy with the council so I put it on the back burner. “Then, when I didn’t get voted in, I thought I might take up writing again.

“I have grandchildren and great-grandchildren, I like telling stories about my life in the Royal Navy and police force. “I started thinking and writing and came to the idea of a children’s book.”

‘The Order of the Poop’ tells the story of Cyril the Crow who lives on Farmer Brown’s farm. Cyril is the leader of the crows and life is happy and peaceful until Farmer Brown buys a shotgun and the caper begins.

Rodney said he found writing it ‘very easy’. He said: “I had to fill my time up so it was very easy to sit on my own with my three cats and write. “The process was very easy for me.”

On why people should read his book, Rodney said: “I honestly don’t know what people will think about it. “I am not going to say people should read the book, but I hope kids who do want to read it will find it good.  “When I was writing the story, I did think I liked the way it came across.”

The former councillor represented the Moulton, Weston, Cowbit ward and was previously on the council’s cabinet.

Rodney has no books in the works yet, however he has a lot of ideas brewing. “I won’t tell you what I am doing at the moment, but I will say keep an eye out on my website,” added Rodney. To find out more about Rodney and his future works, go to https://rodneygrocock.co.uk/.
