Commemorating Armistice Week in South Holland

As we approach Armistice Week, the Spalding Royal Naval Association (RNA) is preparing to honour and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

In this month’s TAKU Talk, I am delighted to invite you, your families, and members of the public to join us at three special Armistice events taking place across South Holland. We hope to see hundreds of you standing alongside us as we pay our respects to our fallen heroes.

Here are the details for the three upcoming events:

  1. Remembrance Service at Spalding Cemetery
  • Date: Saturday, 7th November
  • Time: Please be in position by 10:45am
  • Location: Spalding Cemetery (War Graves section)

Within Spalding Cemetery lies a section dedicated specifically to the fallen, known as the War Graves. Members of the Spalding RNA will be in attendance for a quiet moment of reflection, wreath laying, and remembrance. This event is open to everyone in the community who wishes to pay their respects.

  1. Remembrance Sunday Parade & Service (Main Event)
  • Date: Sunday, 8th November
  • Time: From 10:30am onwards
  • Location: Town Centre to Ayscoughfee Gardens

This is our main Armistice event. The parade will form up in the town centre before marching to Ayscoughfee Gardens for the traditional church service, led by Father Robert Parker-McGee.

Following the service and the formal laying of wreaths, the parade will march back to Spalding Market Place for dispersal.

A Special Note from the RNA:

The service at Ayscoughfee is always wonderfully attended, and over the years, the RNA has been deeply moved by the large number of children who come out to pay their respects. Seeing the younger generation engage in this solemn occasion is truly touching, and we pray this tradition continues for many years to come.

  1. Springfields Peace Garden Service
  • Date: Wednesday, 11th November (Armistice Day)
  • Time: Fall-in at 10:30am
  • Location: Springfields Shopping & Outlet Centre

Our final parade takes place on Armistice Day itself. We will fall in near the main entrance to Springfields. As 11:00am approaches, we will march through the shopping area towards the Springfields Peace Garden, where wreaths will be laid and a final moment of reflection will take place.

Join Us in Remembering

Wreaths will be laid at all three events to honour the bravery, selflessness, and dedication of our armed forces past and present. Whether you join us for one event or all three, your presence means a great deal to the Spalding RNA and the wider community.

We look forward to seeing you there. Lest We Forget.
