Speeding Motorists Are To Blame Not The Bypass

September 2009

I’ve read with interest recently several articles in the local press reporting accidents that have occurred on the new Crowland Bypass. It would appear that the design of the road has been put into question in respect of safety issues.

Personally, I’ve driven along the new Bypass several times and I’ve found that it’s a pleasure to drive on. I haven’t come across any driving difficulties whatsoever. In fact, it’s very nice looking at different views of the Fens that I haven’t seen before.

What I do have to say is that I am amazed and horrified at the amount of speeding drivers travelling along this road. On one particular occasion, I was driving at about 50mph when a car flew passed me going at least 80mph with another car only a matter of a few metres from him trying to overtake this speeding vehicle. This is just one speeding incident I’m commenting on but every time I’ve driven on the new Bypass I’ve noticed that drivers do drive extremely fast on it.

I think this should be enforcement issue and because I am on the Holbeach West Rural Community Policing Panel, I shall raise this issue with the police officers who attend to see if there is anything that can be done.

I would like to hear from you if you have any views about the new Bypass - please contact me by email..
